Episode #43 – How To Deal With Overwhelm

written by Magdalena Mahdy October 10, 2019

How To Deal With Overwhelm

In today’s episode of the AUDACIOUS BABE PODCAST I’m chatting all about overwhelm and sharing 10 tips on how to deal with overwhelm.

What is overwhelm really?

Stress and overwhelm are very much deeply interlinked, some would even say they are one and the same. But I don’t think they are. I must strongly agree to disagree on that one.

To be too much to deal with – To cause someone to feel sudden strong emotion. Cambridge Dictionary

My definition of overwhelm is rooted in long-term stress and overwhelm is an effect of that. Stress can sometimes be a positive thing – we have adrenaline pumping through our veins and everything is go go go, maybe a bit hectic but it is still ok to handle. However, as soon as that phase becomes longer and the endurance of that stress becomes unbearable, that is when stress becomes negative and turns into overwhelm.

You are very much frozen in that state. You have all these things on your to-do list, all these goals and things you need to get done, but then… you can’t do it. Your anxiety levels are too high and it feels like quicksand. It cripples you – metaphorically speaking.

That is overwhelm.

But, you are not alone my lovely. We all have been there one time or another. I certainly have.

in this episode, I’m sharing my own experiences with long term stress and overwhelm and how I’ve managed this year to really become aware of it all. As it turns out, I can’t handle stress as well as I used to and so overwhelm is a big topic for me. I’m no longer good with coping with it as well as I used to. Maybe that is an age thing, but I think it is more to do with the duration of how long this stress has been endured. Or a combination of the two, who knows.

That being said, I then looked further into overwhelm and found some great articles. Here are the 10 tips I have found. I purposely say tips, as these are not steps. So you do not need to follow all of these, but mix match rather. Pick those that you think might help you most.

Listen to the full episode to hear my history of stress and how I deal with overwhelm nowadays as well as hear all about the 10 tips on how to deal with overwhelm. Hopefully these might help you the next time you feel stressed out and have these overwhelming feelings.

Do you have any other tips that weren’t mentioned on the episode on how you are dealing with overwhelm and stress? Let us know below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Have a great non-stress week my lovely. Be kind to yourself. Always.

Lots of love,

Magdalena x
